Event Details

Magical pumpkins, mice transformed into horses, and a fairy godmother all come together in Pauline Viardot’s one-act Cendrillon, which stays true to Perrault’s familiar fairy tale. Originally written for an intimate salon setting, this concert performance will feature a chamber orchestra and is sure to charm audience members of all ages.

Sāvitri: A tale of life, death, and illusion, the first page of the score of Gustav Holst’s chamber opera provides instructions that it be performed “in the open air,” making it ideal for a performance at Wolf Trap. The story comes from the Mahabharata, a Sanskrit epic from ancient India. Holst uses haunting vocal lines to breathe life into the story where love overcomes even Death.
