The Djembe

Get your groove on! Join Wolf Trap Master Teaching Artist Kofi Dennis for 5 weeks of hands-on experience with the djembe, one of the most prominent West African drumming traditions. Learn basic and intermediate techniques, rhythmic patterns, and phrases in a comfortable group setting. Participants will also delve into the history of the djembe in West Africa and the role it plays in the region’s rich musical traditions and cultures. Class members can bring their own djembe or borrow one from the instructor.
